Cub Scouts Pack 125

Cub Scouts Pack 125 is a family scouting program for boys and girls starting in kindergarten through 5th grade.  The pack meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:30pm from September through May in the Fellowship Hall at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church.

Scouts are assigned to dens by age and gender to work on the program appropriate for their age.  Dens meet a couple of times a month at different locations set up by the den leader.  All of the dens comprise the pack.

Pack 125 has an extensive outdoor program consisting of camping, fishing, hiking, water sports, and other fun outdoor activities.  The pack has the annual Pinewood Derby where the scouts race cars they design from blocks of pine wood.  The pack also has special events including the holiday party, Blue & Gold banquet, the Big Trip, and other special events.  Dens have special field trips related to the adventures in their scout manual.

Pack 125 camps at least four times a year.  The pack goes to Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation in Tequesta which is the primary campground for Gulf Stream Council.  The pack also camps at Camp Oklawaha and Scout Island in Sebastian, Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation in Lake Wales, Camp Elmore in Davie, the Everglades Youth Camp at Corbett Wildlife Management Area in West Palm Beach, and many other locations in South Florida.

The highlight of the scouting year is the annual Pack 125 Pinewood Derby.  Scouts design cars from blocks of pine wood to race against each other with the top three from each den advancing to the Everglades District Pinewood Derby.  The pack invites leaders from the community including the Mayor of Wellington, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue to race in the Akela division which also includes the pack leaders, parents, and siblings.

The pack also has a BIG TRIP each year.  In past years, the pack went to Sea World for their overnight camp where they did a behind-the-scenes tour, slept with penguins, manta rays, sharks, dolphins, and other creatures of the sea, and got to have fun in the park.  They have also participated in Scout Days at Daytona International Speedway where they camped in the infield, got a close-up look at the race cars, toured the garages, and watched the cars race.  The pack has also traveled to Kennedy Space Center to participate in the Space Shuttle Atlantis overnight program where they received a behind-the-scenes tour and got to sleep under Space Shuttle Atlantis.

The pack has approximately 60 boys and girls and about 20 adult leaders.  Parents also participate by helping with pack and den events.  Parents help by teaching rank requirements, arranging pack parties, cooking and leading activities at campouts, and many other ways that make Pack 125 one of the best Cub Scout programs in the western communities.
